Congratulations to the first recipients of our K-12 Teacher Grant! 

Amanda McBride and Jennifer McIntyre will both use the grant to purchase STEM equipment for their classrooms and students.

Amanda McBride, teacher at the Bedford County Learning Academy, will use the K-12 Teacher Grant to purchase a Hummingbird Kit.

“Incorporating project-based learning with the kits will help students practice problem solving and team work," McBride said. "When students are actively engaging and designing from their own ideas, they are more interested learning.”

Jennifer McIntyre, teacher at Goodlettsville Middle School, will use the K-12 Teacher Grant to purchase a Sphero Mini Education Pack.

“Spheros provide a variety of STEM activities," McIntyre said. "We can use the Engineering Design Process to solve challenges.  Students can create challenges, games, learn simple coding, then move on to more complex coding.”

 WiTT has committed up to $10,000 annually towards a new WiTT K-12 Teacher Grant. The grant is designed to support Middle Tennessee K-12 teachers apply innovative ideas in the classroom that foster interest in technology and technology careers. Through this program, teachers may submit funding requests related to professional development activities, such as conferences or certifications, or requests related to classroom supplies, like Raspberry Pi computers or Dot & Dash robots. Our hope is that by investing in our teachers and supplying needed tools in the classroom, we are investing in our future and helping to influence the next generation of women in technology.
